Avoiding contradictory offers across campaign channels
Keep campaign prices, dates, eligibility and fulfilment terms consistent across ads, landing pages and supplier placements.
A campaign offer needs one approved source of truth for its price, eligibility, dates and fulfilment conditions. Check every ad and destination against it before launch.
Set a process for changing all affected placements when the offer changes. Contradictions can arise even when each channel team has approved its own creative.
Define the offer precisely
Create an offer record that answers the customer’s practical questions: What is included? Who qualifies? Where is it available? What price or saving is claimed? When does it start and end? Are delivery or booking conditions material? Which page shows the current terms? Record the owner who can approve changes and the evidence behind any claimed saving or benefit.
This record should distinguish an offer from a general brand message. A brand message can often remain stable while an offer changes with stock, price or dates. Keep variable offer details in identifiable fields so reviewers can find every asset that uses them.
For Australian campaigns, the ACCC says it can require businesses to back up claims they make about their products or services. Review the overall impression of each ad alongside its qualifications; a landing page with correct terms does not resolve a conflicting ad headline.
Check the entire customer path
Build a channel matrix with the ad claim, visible qualification, destination, page claim, checkout or enquiry conditions and scheduled dates. Review the matrix as a customer would see it.
A search ad may say a sale ends Sunday while a display asset says Monday; an email may promise delivery to a region excluded at checkout. These hypothetical examples show why checking only files in isolation is insufficient.
Where a channel or placement can show creative variants, check each version and plausible combination for accuracy. Do not rely on one optional line to qualify every possible headline. Apply the same check to layouts or placements where elements may not appear together.
Use a launch check that covers both timing and availability. Confirm the offer is actually live in the intended Australian regions, the promoted products or appointments are available, the price is current and the page reflects the ad. If stock or capacity is uncertain, choose wording the business can support and define a trigger for pausing or revising activity.
Pre-Launch Offer Consistency Check
- Verify ad claim matches landing page termsYes / No
- Confirm eligibility conditions are consistent across channelsYes / No
- Check that end date and availability align in all placementsYes / No
- Validate regional delivery or booking restrictions apply uniformlyYes / No
- Ensure all creative variants (including responsive ads) are accurateYes / No
Control changes during the campaign
When a price, end date or condition changes, record the decision once and list every affected placement. Assign an owner to update the landing page, campaign assets, supplier files and customer-facing teams. Record when each change was submitted, accepted and observed live. A replacement sent to a supplier is not proof the old version stopped running.
If channels cannot be updated together, consider pausing the affected claims until the customer path is consistent. Keep evidence of the correction and the period when a conflicting message may have run, so enquiries can be handled fairly and campaign results can be interpreted accurately.
Ask a final check question: could someone encounter two active campaign messages and reach different conclusions about the same offer? If so, resolve the difference before continuing to spend.
